Abstract

Ventilated facades can be used in cases of reconstruction of existing buildings and in new construction to improve thermal performance of buildings and the architectural appearance of the skin. One of the advantages is reduction of energy consumption using ventilated facades during the summer. This is caused by the combined effect of shading the external wall and airflow induced by convection in heated channel. Performance evaluation of a ventilated facade requires a complete dynamic analysis of ventilation duct and accurate knowledge of heat transfer coefficients, friction factors and thermal properties of materials. Computer code ''Fluent'' was used to investigate the thermal behavior of three different typologies of ventilated facades. The purpose of this study is to show modelling and simulation of ventilated facade that can provide all practical criteria for the selection of suitable the most ventilated facades, as in the case of forced convection due to action fan and natural convection due to stack effect.
