Abstract

The impact of renewables on the basic parameters of electric power systems (EPS) mode in transient conditions causes changes in the control fundamentals of electric power systems (EPS). Under new conditions, control systems must support the basic mode parameters within specified limits and maintain standardized safety factor. Ensuring stable operation is a priority control mode of EPS. The introduction of renewables puts new demands for speed and data management systems of EPS. Coupling RES with the network using power converters (inverters) reduces inertia constant of EPS. Reducing constant inertia of EPS leads to acceleration of frequency change transients. The article suggested approaches to planning kinetic energy reserves of EPS and using virtual inertia controllers for the main types of renewable energy sources to decelerate frequency change transients.
